MEET ANWEN LICHTNAUER: OUR NEWEST ADDITION
We are pleased to open our heavenly gates to another Rélier Angel. Meet Anwen, our newest senior consultant, here to support Head Office candidates across NSW.
You’re HIRED. Anwen’s cap initiation.
First things first, we want to know how it all began. What inspired you to apply for your first role in recruitment?
The chance to combine two things I genuinely enjoy: connecting with people and creating opportunities. I’ve always been someone who loves bringing people together - whether that’s hosting dinner parties, organising get-togethers or creating a space where everyone feels welcome - and recruitment allowed me to do that on a professional scale. It felt like a career where I could make a real difference whilst constantly learning and being challenged!
What was the first role you ever recruited for in your former agency role and what did you learn from it?
The first role I ever recruited for was an excavator operator for a coal mine in Blackwater - a complete 180 from what I’m doing now! It definitely pushed me outside of my comfort zone and taught me how important it is to be adaptable. I quickly learnt how to shift my communication style, connect with a very different type of candidate and tailor my approach to meet their needs. That experience really shaped the way I build relationships today - understanding that every candidate values something different and meeting them where they’re at.
Unlike some of our team, you transitioned into agency from hospitality, rather than from the shop floor, proving that anything is possible if you set your mind to it. What advice do you have for retailers or hospitality players who are inspired to make a move into recruitment like you did?
Honestly, the corporate world felt daunting at first, but very quickly I realised how much of what I had learnt in the hospitality world carried over. On the floor, you’re communicating to a variety of different personalities, juggling a schedule, staying organised and constantly problem-solving. All of that translates directly into recruitment and at the heart of both industries, it’s really about building relationships. So, my advice would be to back yourself - the skills you’ve built are more valuable than you probably realise.
What tips can you give fashion job seekers that will help them stand out from the rest in the application process?
Fashion is an industry built on bold ideas and individuality - it’s where creativity meets impact. As my forever icon, Blair Waldorf, said, “fashion is the most powerful art there is. It’s movement, design, and architecture all in one. It shows the world who we are and who we’d like to be.” So bring that energy into your application - let us see your individuality, your passion and what makes you unique, that’s what will set you apart!
Cassie, Ruby and Anwen (Relier Powerpuff Angels)
After over three years working in agency, you’re now specialising in fashion-only roles for the first time. What are you most excited about in your new role with us at Relier?
I’m beyond excited to be specialising in fashion recruitment! Fashion isn’t just a personal passion for me; it’s something I live and breathe. I’ve always been drawn to the storytelling, the creativity and the way this industry shapes culture and now, I get to combine that love with my recruitment experience. I’m excited to work with brands I genuinely admire, connect with incredible talent and play a role in shaping careers in such a fast-moving, inspiring space. Being part of Relier means I get to fully immerse myself in an industry I care deeply about with hardworking, like-minded women and that’s what makes this opportunity so exciting!
What has been one of your most memorable career achievements or milestones over the years?
I’ve had some incredible highlights in my career - ranking in the top five consultants nationally and #1 in Queensland after just six months, achieving PB’s and even placing a highly niche role for a key client in under 36 hours. But, when I think about the moments that truly stay with me, they’re the ones where I’ve made a real difference in someone’s life. It’s helping a candidate who’d been out of work and losing confidence secure a role that reignites their self-belief. It’s the person who lands their dream role in a great company and calls me crying happy tears. Those are the milestones and achievements that remind me why I love what I do.
And last but not least, we do work in fashion, darling, so what’s the next purchase on your wardrobe Wishlist?
My wishlist is never-ending but the Alaïa Mina 20 in Vienne Wave Calfskin is at the top of my list - it’s small, sculptural and one of those, “if you know, you know” pieces.
