Taylah, our Talent Sourcer and gal you want to be connected with!
First things first! Tell us about your career journey. How did you find yourself in the world of recruitment (and fashion)?
My journey into fashion was a little different to most! After returning home from travelling overseas, I was working in the disability support industry while closely following the Relier journey from afar. I knew that if I wanted to build a career in fashion recruitment, I needed to gain firsthand experience.
So, I took a role on the retail shop floor, continued studying and immersed myself in the fashion world wherever I could.
When the opportunity to join the Relier team came up, I jumped at it. Thankfully, all the small intentional steps paid off and I was lucky enough to land the role. Looking back, it's a great reminder that career paths aren't always linear and sometimes taking a chance can open doors you never expected.

Your role at Relier is a little different to a traditional recruiter. Tell us, what does a Talent Sourcer do? And how does your role support the wider team?
As a Talent Sourcer, I'm often the first point of contact in the recruitment process. I work closely with our amazing consultants to identify and engage with talent, helping connect the right people with the right opportunities. It's very collaborative and acts as an extension of the consulting team. While they focus on managing clients and recruitment processes, I'm focused on finding great candidates and keeping talent pipelines moving.
You spend your days connecting with talent across fashion, beauty and lifestyle. What catches your attention when someone applies for a role or reaches out?
Something so simple but effective is having an up to date, clean and professional profile presentation.
I always say your LinkedIn is your store front! When I see an amazing CV, LinkedIn profile or headshots it automatically makes me want to connect.
It doesn't have to be perfect, but it should tell a clear story about who you are, what you've done and where you're heading.
When everything feels considered, easy to navigate, you immediately want to stay and explore.
The clearer your profile and professional experience is, the easier it is for recruiters to connect you to the right roles
"By having a relationship with a recruiter before you need one, you're already a step ahead of everyone else in the job market."
Spill your secrets. What are your top tips for candidates wanting to stand out in today’s market?
Keep your LinkedIn profile updated and aligned with your resume.
If you're in a creative role, make sure your portfolio is easy to navigate and highlights your best work first and is also relevant to the brand you are applying for.
Don't underestimate the value of networking and building relationships before you're actively job searching, stay in the loop by connecting with someone in the industry.
When reaching out directly to recruiters, keep your message concise, professional and personalised to what you are wanting out of your job search.

You speak to so many people across the industry. What trends are you noticing in the candidate market right now?
Flexibility and progression are top of mind for most candidates right now. People want the ability to balance work and life, but they also want to know there's room to grow. Candidates are looking for opportunities that can offer flexibility and a clear path for career development, basically the best of both worlds!
What’s one thing candidates often underestimate when job searching?
I think the most underestimated part of being open to new opportunities is actually just as simple as being connected with a recruiter. By having some sort of relationship with someone in the industry that you can check in with and have a conversation about what roles are around, you are already in front of everyone else in the job market. Not every initial conversation leads to an immediate opportunity, but building connections before you need them can make a huge difference. So reach out and say hi!

What’s been one of your proudest career moments or milestones so far?
I think one of my proudest moments is getting myself in a room with the right people. As I mentioned before, I made a transition into the Fashion HR space and had always admired the work of people and brands, that I now get to be connected with in my everyday work life. Looking back, it's a proud reminder of how far you can come in a short amount of time, and it makes me excited for what's still to come.
And because we do work in fashion, darling… what’s currently sitting at the top of your wardrobe wishlist?
My current obsession that's been sitting at the top of my wishlist for far too long is the Coco Blazer from RUBY. It's the ultimate winter staple, effortlessly chic, timeless and the kind of piece that instantly elevates any outfit.
