NEGOTIATING A PAYRISE

ARE YOU LOOKING TO NEGOTIATE A HIGHER SALARY WITH YOUR CURRENT EMPLOYER?

ONE

OUTLINE WHERE YOU ARE GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND IN YOUR CURRENT ROLE.

Review your position description and outline what regular responsibilities and projects you are taking on that are above the role expectations on the position description.

TWO

ANALYSE THE QUANTITATIVE DATA.

Review the KPIs for your role or your department. Clearly identify the KPIs you are excelling in against the company benchmark or prior year performance. Understand and outline your contribution to the success.

THREE

CONDUCT MARKET RESEARCH.

Understand what the going rate in your industry, for your role title, with similar brands is. Do your research to pitch a realistic salary increase. You should be able to comfortably place yourself in the branding you have found, based on your number of years in the role and competence against the PD.

FOUR

PUT IT ALL TOGETHER IN A PITCH.

Pull all of this information together in a small pitch (document or verbal) and schedule a meeting with your manager. Verbalise it in a way that is humble yet confident. And remember, you won’t get an answer on the spot! Don’t be surprised if it takes a little bit of time for your manager to assess your request and come back to you.
